Philosophy: Foundation of Learning
Introduction
We all have sets of standards and ideal type of workplace to be part with. We all want a place that can hone our own potential and can live up the dream that we want to be. A place that we can invest our own passion and give all the best that we can. We all want that kind of workplace. Upon realizing that it’s not the place after all, it’s how we picture ourselves in that kind of situation and doing something to achieve it. As define in Businesses Dictionary, Workplace is an establishment or facility at a particular location containing one or more work areas. The term establishment is not just an infrastructure that will cater for a business purposes and a place to get your resources. it must be a place for development and changes. The teacher are the one who will make the ideal type of workplace that we want in reaching the set of standards that we put in ourselves. We are the agent of change. The Social Reconstructionist in creating an avenue to remove the chains doubts, wait and settling below the average. As cited by Avis (2010: 171) workplace can be an important place for learning and development, and in which knowledge can be created.
My Educational Philosophy
“What the mind conceives, the body receives” this is my personal philosophy in life which is a product of someone’s ideology yet very applicable in my part. Being a teacher is really overwhelming, given the idea of struggles, disappointments, hardships and trials we face every day as a teacher, there will come a point that we feel tired and impassionate in doing things that we are tasked to finish on time. This job is totally time consuming that lead to a repeated fatigue, drained and burnt out. In her article, Teacher Burnout: Causes, Symptoms, and Prevention, Fiona Tapp stated that teaching is a rewarding yet demanding career and without proper support, teachers are in danger of being overworked and not taking care of their own mental and physical health needs.
Teachers’ with heavy workload and long hours of work in finishing the task, may result in feeling tired, and feel like needed a rest for a week. When we think negatively we tend to romanticize and see ourselves degraded and already in the lowest point of our life. When we think negatively, we start to pity ourselves and compare it to everyone around us. Instead of having this perspective we must revert our approach in encouraging ourselves to what we really desired.
Think positively. Do it positively. Never let your mind stop you for doing your best every day. You should fight your own mind that you can do more.
Beliefs about Teaching and Learning
Learning is often defined as the route in which any type of knowledge is attained (Eraut, 2000: 4; Lave & Wenger, 1991: 47). Learning will be subjected in evaluation to check the outcome if it is really attained. As a two way process, learning is a result of excellent teaching and conducive environment the student and teacher relationship must be proactive not passive to ensure the development in learning.
Like a regular class you need a set of plans to be systematic in attaining the desired outcome. Learning outcomes are the fruit of organize arrangement of sequential steps in achieving objectives in each lesson. Only the proper utilization and innovation of ideas can expressively change the flow of discussion, while the assessment tool serves as reminder of learning acquired. In this situation transmission of knowledge is highly important.
The efforts of the government in producing an excellent citizen in our country can only be achieve if the well-structured curriculum is properly executed. The teacher must imposed strategies that will prepare the students in everyday life. The teacher must hone and equipped the students to face the changes in the society. Like the objective in social reconstructionism in addressing the social questions and creating a better society. Social reconstruction curriculum tries to involve students in school and community life in order to help them to become adults who can reconstruct and improve society (Zuga, 1992).
Beliefs about students
The students are naive in this world they’re like a vessels full of questions that needed to fill. They are too young to realize that they are full of potentials due to their own doubts and low self-esteem. Our responsibility as a teacher is to cultivate the full potential of students and how they will apply the things they learned.
We just need to guide our student and boost their confidence in focusing on their own abilities. In line with this, the teacher must realize that the students learn differently; everyone is unique. Teachers should be flexible in using different strategies, techniques and methods in achieving desired competency based on the curriculum. Some researches recommend the differentiated activities to promote fairness in the learning process. Researchers believe in the theory of multiple intelligence of Howard Gardner as one contributing factor in attaining the conducive learning for all.
“If you do not learn the way I teach, teach me the way you will learn,” this is the most quotable verse when it comes to the teaching process and promoting an equal opportunity for the students. In reducing the gap to our students, teachers must also provide explicit feedback that helps students move from their current to a higher level of understanding. The relationship of teacher to their student is intent on improving students' achievements as a professional learning community.
Beliefs about knowledge
Being in the fourth industrial revolution where in production of information is innumerable in the digital world, we teachers are vastly challenge to keep posted in the development of knowledge. As Rutherford D. Roger stated we are drowning in information and starving for knowledge. The cumulative changes of information everywhere are scheme to identify the factual among other information in the stream of technology. Our mission today is to fight against the fake data and not the concept of technology.
Certainly, the advances in technology can be both useful and harmful in the learning process. Using technology as an advantage can attest in the development of the teaching methods of the teachers. Traditional way of learning are already outdated, Authentic knowledge is the expectation now in our curriculum. In authentic knowledge the student knows how to apply in real life the things they have learn.
Beliefs about what is worth knowing
In this belief teacher can use numbers of philosophy to sustain what is absolutely worth knowing for our students. Essentiality of each lesson should measure if it really addresses the important things that they can apply in their everyday life. Appreciation and orientation of subject, or discussing the learning competency to our students before the start of the lesson takes a big role in getting the attention of the students in class. Giving them the scope of the subject will let them realize why we need to learn certain topics.
In this note, Progresssivist approach can be applied the in accepting the avenue of changes. We will be rationalist in weighing the lesson which is more valuable for the students to know. We will be pragmatist in choosing, removing and adding competency when we unpack the curriculum that we will teach. We can be an idealist in setting a standard for our students to attain and improve the learning process. And lastly we can be realist in knowing the true reality in each lesson through its application. In this application of approach we are also touching the concept of the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of the students by planning it out before we proceed to the lesson. Analyzing and creating blocks is what our curriculum shall be the focus in ensuring the attainment of HOTS in taxonomy of education. The way of learning and teaching process, student must hold the idea of metacognition in promoting learning about learning.

The world is too dark, full of doubts and full of competitions, only people with wits can survive on top. The fittest you are, the more flexible you can be to cope in the competition of life. An educator is too young to realize the professional world. A master`s degree is not your guarantee to surpass all your comrades. Nor a doctor`s degree can unhide all the hidden knowledge in this world. You must not stop to learn and seeks for the true meaning of wisdom, “Stand firm and hone your own mind in every second in touching one`s life”.
How can a teacher shed his own light to naive mind of youths? Or the teacher is at youth to conquer the avenue of teaching career. The details of every page of books, the sleepless nights and many lashes burnt of an individual cannot prove anything in each seasons of war. Only the struggle and hindrances which can sharpen you each day may prove anything in this profession. Only those who struggle to be on top through papers and pen can only survive with true honor. The test in this world can assess through their skills and experiences, through their competence and abilities . Credential is not about the degree alone, it is about the application and hardship of each individual to be professional in the field.
Undeniably, being a teacher is difficult profession of all profession. The nonstop learning and daily preparation is the testimony of every bank story of a teacher. The regular bracket of salary is also insufficient to some for providing their family needs. The number of days in preparing materials deducted the time and money for their family. The countless works, records and learners’ behavioral condition always needs ton of patience everyday. So, I cannot remove the fact that some be apt to deem in changing the system, to gain more power and to earn more in this profession.
My philosophy of education is just the fruit of the witnessed torment of school teachers in daily basis. The dark stories of some teachers are the backbone of the unhidden corruption. There are some who are fulfilling their own pleasure through these dark secrets, you might say that these are just a speculations and these are just my own imagination. A wise man said in every political group corruption may happen.
A teacher should never stop in learning and can hold on to trials in saving one`s dream not saving his own dream. This profession needs someone who has heart rich in patience and love for learners. Not the love to be rich and well of in own applause. The teacher shall not be too wise for his own good which she/ he can hear alone. In this profession your students are always behind you, when you step forward your students will move forward, not step forward and two steps back for them.
